Defective auto part recall grows even larger

It's well known by now for residents in Florida and all over the world that there have been a massive number of recalls related to an automobile design defect due to air bags manufactured by Takata. The dangers of this defective auto part are significant, and people who might have been affected by it must make certain that they are aware of how to move forward with a case to be compensated.

Most recently, eight more carmakers stated that they are initiating a recall of at least 12 million vehicles due to problems with the air bag inflators. Combined, Honda and Fiat are recalling nearly 9 million of the vehicles. This latest recall is not linked to the driver side air bags but rather to the passenger side. In the past, the recalls were for all inflators in the front of the vehicles. In the initial phase of this recall, the company stated that 14 million inflators had a defect.

In addition, the company has stated that up to 40 million more inflators will be labeled as defective by the year 2019 with recalls by 17 automakers. The issue is dangerous because when the airbags deploy, the inflator has the propensity to explode with enough force to send metal shards into the passenger compartment of the vehicle. 13 people are known to have died with 100 people suffering injuries throughout the world. Models that are subject to this new recall are from 2002 to 2011. Included are pickup trucks, cars and SUVs.

The age of the vehicles and exposure to high humidity areas are considered factors in the issue arising making it something Florida residents need to be vigilant about. The worldwide total of vehicles that are subject to recall is approaching 70 million. The most recent recall includes 2.3 million of the 12 million vehicles that had been recalled for driver's side air bag problems.

Because these issues are ongoing and seemingly worsen with stunning regularity, those who suspect that they or a loved one suffered consumer injury or death because of this automobile design defect need to make sure that they protect themselves with a full investigation with their interests in mind. There are recourses available to those harmed by a defective product. A products liability claim could help injured consumer recover compensation for injuries and losses related to the incident. Additionally, this could hold all parties responsible liable for the negligence related to the action.
