Pickup Truck Smashes Into Ambulance in Tampa Bay Area, Causing Numerous Injuries

Crashes involving ambulances have the potential to be incredibly serious. These first-responder vehicles often carry patients who are already struggling with various health problems, and they often travel at high speeds. Although motorists are supposed to yield to ambulances with their lights and sirens activated, many fail to do so. A recent car accident in Tampa shows how catastrophic these incidents can be.

Four People Injured After Ambulance Collides With Ford F450

In December of 2025, Fox 13 News reported that an ambulance had collided with a Ford 450 in Winter Haven. At the time of the crash, the ambulance was carrying a patient. A paramedic was tending to the patient while the ambulance was in motion, and a second paramedic was behind the wheel. All three vehicle occupants suffered injuries when the ambulance collided with the heavy pickup truck.

Local authorities say that the ambulance was approaching a red light at a “slow speed” when the pickup truck crashed into it. The pickup truck was towing a trailer at the time of the collision. The paramedic in the back of the vehicle was standing up at the time of the collision. The fact that he was not restrained or in a seated position made his injuries particularly serious, and medical professionals later described his situation as “critical.”

The driver of the ambulance and the patient also suffered “serious” injuries, and the driver of the F450 was hospitalized by first responders. Images from the scene show the two vehicles with extremely heavy damage. The 450 was crumpled up like an accordion after the crash, and the ambulance showed severe damage to its front section. Based on the images alone, one might argue that it was a miracle no one died.

F450 Was Traveling at “Highway Speed”

While an investigation is still underway, authorities have noted that the pickup truck was traveling at “highway speed” at the time of the collision. In contrast, the ambulance driver was traveling at a much lower speed. Authorities also noted that the driver of the ambulance stopped at the intersection and looked both ways before crossing at the red light. Finally, police confirmed that the ambulance did have its lights and sirens active at the time of the crash.

Based on this information alone, one might assume that the pickup truck driver was to blame. However, it is important not to jump to conclusions before the investigation wraps up. Even though the ambulance reportedly crossed into the intersection cautiously, the driver still had a red light.
