Mayhem After Multiple Vehicles Smash Into Active Crash Scene in Tampa

MultiCarAccident

Crash scenes are more dangerous than many people realize. One would think that when law enforcement blocks off a road and begins investigating the circumstances of a crash, the situation is relatively stable. However, approaching vehicles can easily slam into the crash scene, causing considerable havoc. This is exactly what happened in a recent Tampa car crash.

Multiple Collisions Reports on I-4 in Tampa

On May 8th, Fox 13 News reported that multiple collisions had occurred on the I-4 in the Tampa Bay Area. It began when a 19-year-old woman driving a Kia Sorento veered out of her lane and struck a semi-truck. This impact caused both vehicles to swerve into the median, and the semi-truck flipped onto its side. Fortunately, neither driver was injured. However, this was only the beginning.

The Florida Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and blocked off the crash with its patrol cars and FDOT trucks. As the officers were investigating the crash, a 23-year-old man driving a Toyota Corolla approached the scene at 2:30 AM. He then smashed into one of the FDOT trucks, sending the truck into a nearby RV dealership and damaging two parked RVs in the process.

After the Corolla came to a rest in the middle of the road, a passenger stumbled out of the vehicle and fell to the ground with unspecified injuries. It was at this moment that yet another vehicle approached the scene, driven by a 73-year-old. This Hyundai Santa Cruz impacted the man lying on the roadway and caused him to suffer fatal injuries.

Now, law enforcement is trying to investigate the crash once again. The complex nature of these multiple collisions will undoubtedly make this task difficult. Who was to blame for the collision? Was it the 19-year-old woman who initially veered out of her lane? Was it the 23-year-old driver who failed to slow down while approaching the crash scene? Or was it the 73-year-old who also approached the collision without slowing down?

These are questions that personal injury attorneys and crash scene investigators may need to answer. It is possible that many of these drivers will share fault and liability in connection with the fatality. One thing is certain: The man who lost his life did not contribute to his own death, as he was merely a passenger caught up in this frantic scene. The family members of this individual may be able to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit on his behalf.
