Tampa T-Bone Crash Lawyer

A T-bone or broadside collision happens when one vehicle crashes into another at a right angle, with the car’s front-end colliding with the side of the struck vehicle. Depending on the relative sizes of the vehicles involved and the speed of the oncoming vehicle, a T-bone crash can cause the most devastation of any type of car accident. T-bone crashes are so serious and deadly that they account for over half of all car crash fatalities, taking thousands of lives every year. Saddest of all, T-bone crashes are among the most avoidable or preventable of all traffic accidents. They simply don’t happen unless someone was speeding, distracted, drunk, or making some other aggressive or reckless driving maneuver that they shouldn’t have.

Our team at Anderson & Anderson is deeply committed to helping accident victims and their families get the care and compensation they need to move forward after a catastrophic or fatal accident like a T-bone crash at a busy Tampa intersection. We have been committed to the people of Tampa for four decades as a law firm, and we are proud to continue this tradition by helping our neighbors when they need it most. If you or a loved one has been hurt or worse in a devastating Tampa T-bone crash, call our office for a free consultation so we can get started building a case and recovering significant compensation on your behalf.

Why Do T-Bone Crashes Happen?

T-bone crashes are most likely to occur at an intersection, whether controlled by traffic lights or stop signs or uncontrolled. T-bone crashes can also happen when vehicles enter or cross a state highway from a side road, or even enter a city street from a parking lot or alleyway. Most often, T-bone crashes are the result of one of the following:

  • Running a red light. Drivers who try to beat a red light by flying through the intersection at dangerously high speeds put themselves, pedestrians, and other drivers at risk of serious injury or death.
  • Floating through a stop sign. Sometimes drivers think no one else is around and they don’t have to bother coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. Some intersections are more dangerous than others due to obstructed views, and you can’t always judge how fast another car is approaching.
  • Failing to yield. It can be frustrating trying to get across traffic on a busy road or highway, but failing to yield the right-of-way to a fast-moving vehicle is a recipe for a catastrophic T-bone crash.
  • Speeding. Even if the light ahead is green, cautious drivers tend to slow down rather than speed up when approaching an intersection. If driving too fast when the light starts to change, the driver is left with two bad choices: continue to speed through the intersection and risk a collision or slam on the brakes and risk losing control of the vehicle. Speed is a primary cause or contributing factor in most car accidents.
  • Distracted driving. When drivers are paying attention to their phones or their passengers instead of the road, they are liable to enter the intersection when it’s unsafe to do so or turn into the path of an oncoming car, truck or motorcycle.
  • Drinking and driving. Drunk drivers are guilty of “all of the above” when it comes to causing T-bone crashes. Their impaired judgment, attention and reflexes lead them to run red lights and stop signs, fail to yield the right-of-way, drive at unsafe speeds, and fail to watch the road.

Comparative Fault in T-Bone Crashes

T-bone crashes are complex events, and it isn’t always clear who is at fault. Determining who is to blame can be complicated and require testimony from mechanical engineers or accident reconstruction experts along with physical evidence such as tire marks or camera footage. Our team at Anderson & Anderson has decades of combined experience investigating traffic accidents and litigating questions of fault. If the other driver’s insurance company is denying or disputing liability, we’ll put in the time and work required to build a strong case that proves their fault.

Sometimes, both drivers bear a portion of responsibility for causing a T-bone crash. Even if this is the case, Florida law still allows an injury victim to recover compensation for their injuries from the other driver according to their percentage of fault. We don’t compromise or settle when it’s not in our client’s best interests, and we don’t let our clients accept partial responsibility for an accident that wasn’t their fault. Either driver can be responsible for causing a T-bone crash, and every case is different. Whether you were at the top of the T or the bottom, if you were unlucky enough to be injured in a T-bone crash in Tampa, the attorneys and staff at Anderson & Anderson are here to take care of you and help you get much needed financial support for your medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages authorized under Florida personal injury law.
