Pickup Truck Crash in Tampa Bay Area Leaves Homeowner Pinned

RedLight

Many residents believe that when they go to bed at night, they are safe from negligent drivers. However, a recent truck accident in Tampa shows that this is not always the case. If you were injured after a truck crashed into your home, you have every right to explore your legal options for adequate compensation.

Pickup Truck Driver Ran Red Light Before Slamming Into Home

Officials in Sarasota say that a 54-year-old pickup truck driver ran a red light before veering off the road and slamming into a private residence. The impact left the pickup truck almost entirely inside the home, leaving a giant hole in the side of the wall. A 62-year-old man was sleeping inside at the time, and the pickup truck went straight into his bedroom before ending up on top of the victim’s bed.

Although the victim was pinned underneath the pickup truck, he miraculously survived. Officials described these injuries as somewhat minor, although the victim was still hospitalized by first responders. After an initial investigation, law enforcement determined that the driver was not under the influence at the time of the crash. However, one Trooper stated that the driver must have been distracted or asleep at the wheel.

Although the homeowner survived the impact, he will return to a residence that is no longer fit for human habitation. With a massive hole in the side of his bedroom, the man is in desperate need of compensation for his property damage. It is not clear whether he even has a place to stay while the repairs occur.

Officials say that the pickup driver faces charges for running the stop sign, although additional consequences could be possible as they continue to investigate. These investigators may be attempting to gain access to the man’s phone, as data could help prove driver distraction.

Neighbors say that this intersection is particularly dangerous, noting that similar accidents have happened in the past. The situation became so bad that the local government installed reflective stop signs, but even this improvement seems to be insufficient. Neighbors are now calling on Manatee County to do more. One resident believes that the local government should install barriers to prevent vehicles from hitting houses in the future.

Depending on the specifics of future crashes, victims may be able to sue the local government for failing to take these safety steps. After all, it is difficult to imagine a more obvious “wakeup call” than this recent crash.
