Woman seriously injured in fiery wrong-way crash on I-275

Motor vehicle accidents do happen everywhere and Tampa, Florida, is no exception. These car accidents usually occur due to the negligence or recklessness on the part of drivers. Drunk driving is a major contributing factor to reckless driving.

In a recent incident, a woman suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 275. The accident took place when a drunk driver going the wrong way struck the victims' car. According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, the victim, a 24-year-old woman was driving a small sedan in the inside southbound lane of Interstate 275 near Gandy Boulevard in the early morning hours on a recent day.

The drunk driver, a 37-year-old woman, was driving a small SUV north in the southbound lanes of I-275, also in the inside lane. There was a head-on collision and as a result both the vehicles rotated to the shoulders of the interstate. The impacted caused SUV to erupt into flames. While the driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries, the driver of the Buick was taken to Hospital with serious injuries.

Police have charged the driver of the SUV who was allegedly drunk at the time of accident of DUI with serious injury, reckless driving serious injury and driving in the wrong direction.

Alcohol consumption greatly impairs drivers' ability to drive and car accidents are often the result. Drunk drivers often fail to observe traffic rules. Not paying attention to the signs and traffic signals, driving in the wrong lane, speeding and taking wrong turns are all possible consequences of drunk driving.

The violation of traffic rules by car drivers can sadly have serious, and even deadly, consequences. A far too large number of deaths and injuries are reported every year in car accidents. These accidents usually bring devastating consequences to the victims and their family. Victims may face permanent disability and become unable to earn livelihood living. If the victim is the sole earner of the family, the consequences of physical disability may be far-reaching.

Victims of car accidents can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages and the cost of rehabilitation. The law puts the responsibility on negligent and reckless drivers to compensate the victims or their dependents.
