One dead, 2 seriously hurt, in area accident

One man died and two others had to be taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a recent accident in Pasco County, which as many of our readers know is about 30 miles north of Tampa and part of the greater metropolitan area.

Police say that the accident involved a garbage truck and a private vehicle. The man driving the private vehicle, who died at the scene of the accident, may have been driving too fast, but for whatever reason, he failed to handle a curve in the road properly and drifted in to oncoming traffic. As a result, he stuck the dump truck, putting both vehicles in to nearby guardrails.

Both vehicles were on fire when authorities arrived. The driver of the Ford died at the scene of the accident. The other two victims, one of whom was driving the garbage truck, were transported from the scene of the accident in what police called serious condition.

Investigators say that they found no evidence that either driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. They did note that none of the occupants of either vehicle was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.

This accident illustrates a couple of points. First, not all car accidents involving commercial vehicles are the fault of the commercial vehicle driver. Sometimes, it is commercial drivers who are victims of accidents and who need compensation for their injuries, as workers' compensation will not pay for everything.

Second, it appears that the person who was responsible for this accident died at the scene. While this may raise some questions about whether the injured victims can still get compensation, they should be able to do so by filing a personal injury case against the estate of the deceased victim.
