Fatal accident kills bicyclist due to alleged drunk driver

Since the weather in Florida is conducive to outdoor activities, it is not unusual numerous bicyclists to be on the road. In addition to the laws governing the need for drivers and bicyclists to share the road safely by adhering to traffic regulations, there is also an unsaid understanding that drivers will take caution with people who are riding bikes to make sure that there are no accidents with injuries and even fatalities. In some cases, however, drivers will behave recklessly and place these riders in jeopardy for a wrongful death incident.

According to recent reports, 67-year-old man has been arrested for hitting and killing a 44-year-old man who was riding a bicycle. He then supposedly drove away from the scene. The accident occurred at around 7:15 in the evening as the driver was operating a Toyota Camry LE.

Police believe that the vehicle ran onto the shoulder of the road, hit the bicyclist and then drove off. Law enforcement stopped him around two hours later. They found that he had bloodshot and glassy eyes, smelled of alcohol and almost fell over as they questioned him. It was reported that the driver gave a blood sample and took field sobriety tests. The breath test he gave registered twice the legal limit, resulting in his arrest..

There are many factors that will be up for consideration after a family has suffered the untimely loss of a loved one in a fatal car crash. There might be medical expenses if the person received treatment prior to death. There will be funeral expenses, and amid the emotional upheaval from a fatal accident, there will be financial and personal realities that must be taken into account.

Insurance companies are mainly focused on keeping their financial payments within reason and will therefore try to make a settlement offer to avoid a costly legal filing in which there is a chance that they will have to pay significant compensation. This is why the family needs to be aware of their rights to pursue a legal case. A wrongful death suit does not only help surviving members hold a negligent part responsible for his or her wrongdoings but also helps them recover compensation to offset the financial damages caused by the losses and damages arising from the fatal accident.
