Three people die in fiery car accident on Selmon Expressway

A devastating scene recently unfolded on Selmon Expressway in South Tampa. Drivers witnessed a multi-vehicle collision that left one of the involved cars engulfed in flames. Despite efforts by good Samaritans who stopped their own vehicles to help the victims, three individuals perished in the fiery wreck.

A man, a woman and a child lost their lives in a crash that authorities believe was caused by a driver who lost control of her car as she was executing passes on the expressway. She struck the victims' car, sending into oncoming traffic where it was hit by two more vehicles before catching fire. The passing driver did not stop to help the victims and authorities later caught her and charged her with several crimes.

The four vehicle accident caused major delays as authorities cleaned up the debris of the collision and attempted to understand why it occurred. They believe that the passing driver may have been on prescription medications that influenced her ability to safely drive a car.

The identities of the three victims have not been released and it is unknown if they were part of a family or unrelated. In either case, it is likely that loved ones of the victims are reeling as they come to terms with the violent collision that claimed the victims' lives. Despite the fact that the responsible driver will face criminal charges for her conduct she may also be held civilly liable for the wrongful deaths of the three victims. Family members and those responsible for the victims' estates can work with personal injury attorneys to determine if wrongful death claims are appropriate given the circumstances of the deadly accident.
